On relationships

Relationship-of all kinds-are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely, with an
open hand, the sand remains where it is. The minute you close your hand and
squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers.
You may hold on to some of it, but most will be spilled. A relationship is like that. Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely
to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost.

Thought of the day:

Sigh

Having the wrong combination of people coming together to play and sing music is really bad. Having no frens in church sucks ever more. And sighing is good. It lets out all the negative stuff from your body and the wind juz blows it away.

You have come a long way if u are one of them!!

We survived with mothers who had no maids
We had no childproof locks on toliet bowls, medicine bottles, doors or cabinets.
When we rode our bikes, we had no helmets.
Riding in the back of a pirate taxi was a special treat.
We drank water from the tap and not from a bottle.
We would spend hours under the bright sun flying kites, without worrying about UV rays giving us cancer or aging skin.
We went to catch spiders without worries of Aedes mosquitoes.
We took candy, fizzy drinks, shaved ice with syrup(and salt added to cola was remedy for fever), but we weren't overweight because we were always outside playing.

We did not have Playstations, Xbox, cable TV, DVD movies, no sound surround, no internet.
The idea of a parent bailing us if we broke the law was unheard of. Parents sided with the law.
Yet, we produced some of the best risk-takers and problem solvers.
Cheers to those who pulled thru from the '50s to '80s!

Life is for living, live it!

There are moments in life when u miss someone so much,
u just want to pick them from your dreams & hug them for real.
When the door of happiness closes, another opens.
But often, we look so long at the closed door,
we don't see the one which has been open to us.
Don't go for looks, they can deceive.
Don't go for wealth, it can fade away.
Go for someone who makes u smile because a smile can make a dark day bright.
Dream what u want to dream, go where u want to go.
Be who u want to be because you have only one life & one chance to do
the things u want to do.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past.
You can't go forward until u let go of your past failures & heartaches.
Live ur life so that at the end,
you're the one who is smiling & everyone around you is crying.
Don't count the years - count the memories
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away!

When is enough, enough?

At what point is enough enough? I have so many blessings – less than a lot of people, but more than a lot of people. But that shouldn't matter… it doesn't matter what other people have… at least it shouldn't. What should matter, is do I have what I need? Or even want? There's that old saying I love so much – "We buy things we do not want, with money we do not have, to impress people we do not like." I know everyone in the world knows how that feels, if they can admit it.

The same concept goes for everything I have… my car, my home, my friends, family…. Faith… everything. When have we had enough food? Where is that line? Where do we draw it? From what I can see, most people don't. Ever. We have clothes, but we need better clothes… a house but we need a bigger house. I have a nice car, but I need a nicer one – I have a sweet and beautiful girl, but I need a sweeter and more beautiful one – I have a good body but I need a better one – I have a lot of fame but I need more… even down to, I'm a good Christian but I need to be a better one, or I'm a smart person but I need to be smarter. I've had a few drinks but I need more. I've got a good steak but it could be cooked better, or fresher. Does it ever stop?

When is a hot shower enough? When is warm shelter or clean water enough? When is a person who loves you enough, no matter how rich or charming or stunningly beautiful they are? I know people who are wealthy beyond what most people could imagine, dating girls that should be on the cover of magazines, driving cars that most people only see in movies, but they still dream of more stuff, popularity, respect, and hotter girls, no matter how much they already have. So when is enough enough? For most people, never. And that's why we're all so miserable.

I'm happy. Deep down, I really am. But I still feel constant pressure to strive for more…
to "live up to my potential." What does that mean? It's like I'm being pushed to want what I don't have… or to want that they don't have. I'm happy… when did happiness stop being enough? I need to remind myself – I'm happy. And how can we really want more than being happy? Is there more than happiness? I don't think so. As Cheryl Crow says, "It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you have." The more money I make, the more I spend. The more fame I get, the more cocky I am. When people all love me, I want them to love me more. Where does it stop? Does it stop? Not unless you make it stop. Not unless you can look where you are right now and say, "I have enough." And you do have enough… unless you're dying of thirst of course, and if you are, you're a complete moron for reading all this – go find some water.

am just wanting people to know – I know you want more, and while there is a certain amount of happiness in 'more', it's never enough. All of a sudden, I'm realizing, I could easily spend the rest of my life striving for more… and how miserable that would be. It's like we only get enough to remind us that we can have more. I don't want to live like that. I don't want to live the rest of my life un-happy with what I have.

If you're reading this, you're probably in a warm place, had a good meal today, took a warm shower, and have people who love you… probably even have your own computer. That's enough. Really. That's more than enough. Because if you're not happy with that, you could be Bill Gates wondering how you could turn your money into more. Not saying that he does, because I don't know him and maybe he doesn't, but if you can't appreciate the warm shower you took this morning, you and I are both in for a very long life of un-happiness.

Let me add, I don't think money is bad at all. (or power, same thing) It's a great thing - it usually reflects hard work and wisdom. The love of it is the root of all evil, and the love of it is what will make people miserable. Hard work and wisdom are very fulfilling, and if they pay off financially, that's wonderful. But the money itself is what will corrupt if the hard work and wisdom that built it are lost. That aside, everything I said above stands.

Christmas

ORIGIN

In the days when the Romans ruled over Israel, the Emperor ordered a a census to be taken and everyone was asked to return to his hometown. A young man, Joseph and his wife, Mary, a virgin who was expecting a child by the power of God(as believed by Christians), made a long tiring journey to Bethlehem. The town was overcrowded and there was no room available. That was serious because Mary was about to give birth to her child and needed a place to rest. Seeing their plight, an innkeeper offered some space in his stable, and it was there that Jesus Christ was born.

All over the world, Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on 25th December which is not the actual date of his birth. This celebration originated in the 4th century AD. That was the time when the Roman Empire became Christian with the conversion of the Emperor, Constantine the Great, to Christianity. A few days after the winter solstice(22nd December), the Romans had a festival of the birth of the new sun. The Christians of Rome found this to be a suitable date to celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ.

SIGNIFICANCE

For Christians, the most important meaning of Christmas is that God has became man in Jesus Christ to bring salvation to mankind, In the Bible, Jesus is also called "Emmanuel" which means "God-with-us". In celebrating the coming of Jesus Christ believers

(a) recall the historical event more than 2000 years ago. This is the time to rejoice and thank God who "loved the world so much that he sent his Son";

(b) try to find greater meaning in their lives today. As a man, Jesus Christ, whom Christians also believe to be God, lived a fully human life. He was able to live a life of perfect love. Christians rejoice to know that such a life is possible and at Christmas, renew their faith in Jesus Christ;

(c) have their hopes renewed. No one knows what the future holds for him, but by hearing the promise of Jesus Christ, " I will be with you always", Christians live in hope as they put their trust in him.

OBSERVANCES

As Christmas is an important celebration for Christians, some churches observe a four-week period of spiritual preparation called Advert. Advert means "coming" and so during this period, Christians pray and read the Bible to focus their thoughts on their need for a Saviour in their lives. During this period of Advert, they become more aware of the kind of changes they need to make their lives in order to follow more closely the teachings of Christ. This preparation leads up to special midnight services in many churches. Apart from Masses and Holy Communion Services, some churches also stage Christmas pageants. These pageants are plays which re-enact the scence of Christ's nativity (birth). Special worship services alre also held on Christmas Day itself. The Christmas message is also proclaimed during the season through the singing of Christmas carols in churches, homes and other places.

Christmas is a special time of exchanging gifts. The giving of gifts symbolises God's great gift of the Saviour in the person of Jesus. It reflects the spirit in which Christians are to live, that is, more ready to give than to receive. Therefore, gifts are given, especially to the poor and underprivileged, as a sign of God's love for all people.

Santa Claus - This jolly character dressed in red and white still appears at Christmas much to the delight of children. Santa Claus is the nickname of Saint Nicholas, bishop who lived in the 3rd century AD. According to a legend, he secretly helped a poor man, providing him with dowries to marry off his three daughters. So nowadays, Santa Claus is known to be a good-hearted man who gives gifts to children in secret, especially at Christmas time.

The Christmas tree, an evergreen, symbolises everlasting life. The practice decorating the tree with lights could have its origin in the Roman festival which Christmas replaced. They represent the warmth of God's love which Christians experience and want to share with others, They also represent Jesus Christ whom Christians call the "Light of the world". The decorations symbolise all the blessings one has received from God during the year.

A walk to remember

Today met up with Gary to buy books. Saw my freshies leading their freshies to buy books. Reminds me of last year when i was doing the same. But too bad my freshies seems to have forgotten me liao.. sad man.. Then went to South canteen to eat then head to Funan IT mall to find my Office chair and Gary's resistance band.

Within 6 hours, we walked from Funan IT mall to suntec to Sim Lim then back to Bugis Marina and finally back to suntec.(over 30km)Finally suntec's carrefour have wat i wan.. And guess wat this bloody hell indian guy say we can put the office chair into the trolley and pay at the counter .Pay liao drag to this Looney Tunes store to tell them my address and they will send it to my house dismantle. I have to resemble them myself? The indian guy's attitude sucks la. And because we are buying something less than 150 we need to put the stuff into the trolley. Then if we buy cupboard we put the cupboard into the trolley to pay?

It's OK To Be A Bad Christian

"When a man who accepts Christian doctrine lives unworthily of it, it is much clearer to say that he is a bad Christian than to say he is not a Christian.” ~ C.S. Lewis, in the preface of the book, Mere Christianity

C.S. Lewis went to a place where few preachers dare go – he actually said it – you can be bad at being a Christian and still be a Christian. This is without a doubt dangerous ground, because it is easy to become stale, and God clearly said ‘You can be hot, or you can be cold, but if you are lukewarm I will spew you out of my mouth.’ However, there are still two facts, tried and true, that cannot be changed. The first is, you can become a Christian instantly. Christ clearly stated that fact – “Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, and you will be saved.” If you acknowledge the teachings of Christ, and commit to following them, you are a Christian. The second fact is, you cannot become a good Christian instantly. It’s no more than common sense – if you start playing guitar, it will be a good bit of time before you will be a good guitar player. That is no reason to give up – you can call yourself a guitar player the second you purchase one and begin to learn. You are simply a bad guitar player, and that’s quite all right, for a certain period of time. If you’ve been playing for years and are no better than you were at first, there’s something quite wrong, but as long as you continue to improve, there’s no place in anyone to insult your progress. While one man may have a more natural makeup to play guitar, that doesn’t exactly mean he has tried harder. To whom much is given much is expected; only you and God know if you are working at the pace you should be. Seeing as chastity, temperance, humility, and all the other Christian virtues are in the opposite direction of your natural desires, it’s certainly going to take some time to become good at adopting the Christian virtues. Do not be discouraged by the fact that you are a bad Christian – it’s quite all right, just so long as you never stop practicing.

Here’s yet another way to look at it. It is well known to modern people that taking smaller bites of food and chewing them slowly is a healthier way to eat. Many of us, despite knowing this fact, continue to eat fast and take large bites. This overloads our body, and due to not chewing our food properly, our body cannot get all the nutrients out of the food before it turns to waste. The same goes for Christianity – there is so much to be taken in, it must be done slowly and carefully. The person who eats the entire meal quickly may be able to say, “I am a better eater than you, I am already done”, but get very little quality or enjoyment out of it. Meanwhile, the very slow eater, who may seem to be inferior at the practice, is getting proper nourishment and enjoying his meal at the same time. I have seen many eager Christians constantly bite off more than they can chew, trying to make themselves a perfect Christian overnight, only to find themselves disappointed when their efforts turn to waste (I have actually seen this go on for years upon end). One man may say, ‘I am going to stop cursing, drinking, smoking, lusting, pay all my bills on time, get out of debt, get in healthy shape, clean up my room, and read my bible every day’. Meanwhile his friend says, ‘I’m going to deal with the smoking, drinking, debt, lust, and all that stuff later – right now I am just going to try and stop looking down my nose at people I don’t prefer. I’ll confront those other issues when I get this one down.’ While the first man may hold up for a while and seem to be getting further along, appearing to be a better Christian, he will quickly find he has bitten off more than he can chew and all his efforts turn to waste. Meanwhile, the second man, while not coming along as fast, will slowly overcome his flesh and eventually digest more training and wisdom than the other man. Don’t try and bite off more than you can chew – it’s ok to be a bad Christian for a time, and I would go so far as to say it is unavoidable. No one is good at something overnight. You can become a Christian overnight, but take your time becoming good at it. Practice makes perfect. Pick up your guitar and learn the basics, and when you’re ready, move on to the next level. Chew your food slowly and enjoy each bite – take another when your body is ready. Believe in God, study Jesus teachings, and though it will take years, that’s quite normal and alright – with God’s help and some hard effort on your end, you’ll get there.

The Difference Between Rich/Poor People?

Article By: Robert Joseph

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?"

"It was great, Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yeah," said the son.

"So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.

We buy our food, but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing?

Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing you have, especially your friends!

Friends Forever

VITAMIN C LYRICS

"Graduation (Friends Forever)"
And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same
But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don't have another day
Cause we're moving on and we can't slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And I keep thinking of that night in June
I didn't know much of love
But it came too soon
And there was me and you
And then we got real blue
Stay at home talking on the telephone
We'd get so excited, we'd get so scared
Laughing at ourselves thinking life's not fair

And this is how it feels[1] -
As we go on
We remember
All the times we
Had together
And as our lives change
Come Whatever
We will still beFriends Forever

So if we get the big jobs
And we make the big money
When we look back now
Will our jokes still be funny?
Will we still remember everything we learned in school?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy Bobby be the stockbroker man?
Can Heather find a job that won't interfere with her tan?
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly

And this is how it feels [Repeat 1]
La, la, la, la:
Yeah, yeah, yeah
La, la, la, la:
We will still be friends forever
Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there?
Can we make it somehow?
I guess I thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us 'round?
Will these memories fade when I leave this town
I keep, I keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
[Repeat 1 (3x)]

Importance of Grades

By : Robert Joseph Submitted 2007-04-09 15:11:11

While getting an education is important, human potential is not so limited that it can be measured merely by an apitude for rote learning. Grades are just one means by which to reveal the gem at the center of your life. So do not evaluate yourself solely on grades or the school you attend.

It has been said recently that one's EQ is more important that one's IQ. This attests to the importance of such broadranging human qualities as compassion or a staunch fighting spirit, which no IQ test can guage. For this reason, it is foolish to think that your grades at sixteen or eighteen or whatever, will determine the rest of your life. There's much more to human potential than that.

Your studies are important. But your present grades do not doom you to a less-than-bright future. If you think this way, you will keep yourself from nurturing your abilities. If you give up trying to mine the gem in your life, your personal development will cease. This is something to avoid at all costs.

Some get accepted at universities but don't work hard there. There are some who become overbearing and arrogant. The world needs leaders-- not elitists. Others stop striving for personal growth after entering a big company or becoming bureaucrats, doctors, or lawyers. Some people who graduate from top universities even resort to crime. Many people, achieving their personal goals, forget to work for others.

Actually, graduating and getting a job is just the beginning, not the final destination. But many think only about what they want to become, not what they can contribute to the society. Greatness as a human being is not determined by educational background or social position.

Your future depends on the efforts you make and whether you are walking the correct path. It's not important how you compare to others but how you compare to who you were yesterday.

The question is how we can live happily, in a way true to ourselves, where we can always look forward and advance. Suppose you are lost in the jungle. You want to find your way out and reach the ocean but don't know which way to go. What do you do? The answer is to keep moving ahead. Eventually, you will reach a river, and when you follow the river downstream, you will reach the ocean.

Being young means wrestling with all kinds of problems. It means resolving them, in spite of all difficulties, pushing aside the dark clouds of despair and advancing toward the sun, toward hope. Such strength and resilience are the hallmarks of youth.

Buddhists gain the widsom throught daily practice that the important thing is to keep moving forward. While struggling with various problems, it is vital that you advance-- even if it's only one or two inches. If you do so, later, when you look back you'll see that you have actually made your way through the jungle in no time.
